In The Murders in the Rue Morgue, the story takes place in Paris, in the first half of the 19th century. The narrator, a foreigner, is friends with Auguste Dupin, a young man from an excellent family but penniless, with whom he lives and whose friendship is precious to him. Dupin is an extraordinary character who cultivates a gift of observation of the rarest kind. This gift is put to the test when a heinous crime is committed in an apartment on the Rue Morgue. Two women – Madame Espanaye and her daughter Camille – have been savagely murdered. The two unfortunate women have suffered terrible violence, and their screams have attracted a crowd of neighbors and two policemen. When the latter managed to force the door of the victims' home, they were greeted by a terrible spectacle... #EdgarAllanPoe #RueMorgue AudioCite
