The Cold War shaped the second half of the 20th century and did not leave Westphalia-Lippe untouched. Many of the traces left behind are still part of the Westphalian countryside today. The new documentary filmmaker Harald Sontowski's "Achtung ABC Alarm - The Cold War on Westphalia's doorstep" shows exactly where, produced in collaboration with the LWL Media Center. How did the military installations function and who worked there? How did soldiers and Westphalian residents perceive the war? And what role did the peace movements of the 1980s play? Images of former military bases, personal stories from contemporary witnesses and assessments from experts provide a new and interesting insight into an important part of Westphalian history. In addition to photographs of the military installations, contemporary witness reports and expert assessments, explanatory graphics are also used, which were created by the graphic artist and illustrator Niklas Schwartz: https://niklasschwartz.de/ #kalterkrieg #westfalen Chapters: 0:00:00 – 0:00:45 Intro 0:00:45 – 0:03:25 Beginnings of the Cold War 0:03:25 – 0:16:22 Dülmen 0:16:55 – 0:25:14 Erndtebrück, Siegen-Wittgenstein district 0:25:15 – 0:34:41 Oedingen, Lennestadt town 0:34:41 – 0:35:51 Nordkirchen, Münsterland 0:35:51 – 0:39:01 Drangstedt-Elmlohe, Lower Saxony 0:39:01 – 0:40:09 Bünde, East Westphalia 0:40:09 – 0:46:46 Meinerzhagen, Sauerland 0:46:46 – 0:50:47 Quickborn, Schleswig-Holstein 0:50:47 – 0:51:12 Dortmund 0:51:13 – 0:56:17 Münster, Westphalia 0:56:17 – 0:59:03 Nottuln, Coesfeld district 0:59:03 – 1:13:10 Peace movements 1:13:10 – 1:15:54 Last years of the Cold War 1:15:54 – 1:18:30 Dreierwalde, Hörster 1:18:30 – 1:22:47 Monuments 1:22:47 – 1:23:40 End credits
