Hello and welcome to ATOUT SANTÉ, the show that makes you an actor in your health. Today's theme is: Liver transplantation. Liver transplants are, after kidney transplants, the most common transplants. Since 1998, more than 26,000 liver transplants have been performed, including 491 from living donors. There are approximately 1,300 liver transplants per year. Like the heart or lungs, the liver is a vital organ, for which there is no sustainable alternative. The increasing number of hepatitis C cases suggests that waiting lists for such an operation will soon increase. And the shortage of available organs continues to worsen. During this show, we will answer questions such as: • When you have liver disease, who should you contact? • When does a patient consult a hepatologist? • What is the liver for? • Is it a vital organ? Speakers: • Pr Jean HARDWISEN, head of the general surgery and liver transplantation department • Mrs Adeline GRULIER, patient • Mrs JEANTOT, coordinating nurse
