Atmosphere at Horse Statue, Police Push Back Students Demonstrating Against 12 Percent VAT

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV - Students who are members of the All Indonesia Student Executive Board (BEM SI) today held a demonstration to reject the planned 12 percent VAT increase at the Horse Statue Roundabout, Central Jakarta. Carrying a number of banners and posters, the demonstrators rejected the government's policy regarding the 12 percent VAT increase. In their speeches, the masses demanded that President Prabowo Subianto cancel the 12 percent VAT which is considered to be causing misery to the people. A number of police were also on standby to secure the demonstration at the Horse Statue Roundabout, Central Jakarta. As a result of the action, traffic flow from the Horse Statue to the State Palace was temporarily closed to four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles. Also Read BREAKING NEWS!
