Tonight we will meet a human encyclopedia. Physicist, Doctor of Natural Sciences, ethnologist, historian, pioneer of paleoastronomy and ethnocosmology in Lithuania, Professor Libertas Klimka, says that Lithuanians have not lived better. Simple arithmetic: in the eighteenth century, our ancestors used to put nine dishes on the Christmas Eve table, now - twelve. Moreover, oysters, bananas, sushi are displayed on the tables... "This is abnormal!", - indignantly says Klimka, who has been studying ethnic culture for half a century, and adds that sushi on Christmas Eve is appropriate only in one case - if your ancestors were Japanese. He says that during the most important holidays of the year, it is necessary to adhere to the traditions of our ancestors - only in this way will these holidays be exceptional. They must be prepared according to traditions, with a certain mood, specific attributes. Otherwise, it will be an ordinary ball. Uniquely Lithuanian Christmas Eve customs include the belief that the spirits of ancestors gather at the feast table; authentic dishes; night spells and fortune-telling. It is a sacred duty for a family to talk about family history when they gather at the Christmas Eve table, to tell their grandchildren about their grandparents and great-grandparents. So that they can learn from their hard work, curiosity, faith in the future and other good things. Holidays help to forget about hardships and worries, and give hope for the future. Lithuanians need to learn from their history.
