Every year we visit the waters in the winter months to find parent fish that have come up from the sea. The fish are temporarily caught with an electric fishing device, and if possible the roe and milk are stripped off and artificially fertilized. The fertilized eggs are placed in an incubator and a few weeks later we get the hatched young fish back for stocking. Unfortunately, the water quality is not yet good enough for the eggs to develop sufficiently in the wild. Among other things, heavy deposits of iron ochre leaching lead to the eggs suffocating. The whole thing is supported by the Lower Saxony Bingo! Environmental Foundation and the voluntary work of the fishing clubs involved.
