It is a sequel to the 2020 game Astro's Playroom and the third game in the Astro Bot series. The game was released for the PlayStation 5 on September 6, 2024. Upon its release, the game received universal acclaim from critics. PLOT (SPOILER!!!): One day, in space, a spaceship resembling the PlayStation 5 console is seen circling the cosmos, carrying Astro and numerous bots resembling him, representing his entire crew.Suddenly, they encounter a green alien named Space Bully Nebulax, who chases after the mothership, attacks the crew, and steals its CPU. This causes the mothership to explode, with its parts scattered throughout space and the bots stranded on other planets. Shortly after the attack, what is left of the mothership crash lands on a desert-based planet, and Astro, knocked unconscious, is revived by the Dual Speeder, a much smaller vessel resembling the DualSense controller. A satellite crashes down the planet below, and when Astro activates it, he begins searching for his fellow bots and looking for the missing pieces of the mothership. Shortly after Astro explores his first planet, the mothership reactivates, and the crash site becomes an oasis and settlement for Astro and the rescued bots. Astro continues to explore the galaxies and rescue most of the bots until he tracks down each boss's home planets: Gorilla Nebula (Mighty Chewy), Tentacle System (Wako Tako), Serpent Starway (Lady Venomara), Camo Cosmos (Mecha Leon), and Feather Cluster (Falcon McFly) and battles them.Once Astro has recovered most of his crew and that the mothership has been fully repaired after exploring all the galaxies, he encounters Space Bully Nebulax again and gives chase, sparking an intergalactic war in the process, with most of the crew using older PlayStation hardware as part of their squadron. After a long battle across the universe, Astro and his fellow bots reach Space Bully Nebulax for one final battle to retrieve the missing CPU. Moments later, Astro is able to retrieve the CPU, which inserts itself into the mothership, but not without a badly injured Nebulax, who chooses another fight. With the help of the bots, Astro is able to blast the UFO into Nebulax's body, but this creates a black hole in the process. Nebulax attacks Astro, aiming to guide him to his impending doom as the bots do everything they can to save him, though Astro sacrifices himself in the process, causing a supernova. As the bots fear Astro's fate from the fight, he emerges from the horizon and lands on the mothership, but collapses and dies as his robotic limbs fail one by one. Some of the bots find and throw spare parts for Astro, as the mothership's repair systems use them to repair and revive him. After being resurrected, Astro celebrates with his crew and once again explores through space as the credits roll before departing on his dual speeder one last time.
