Monday, February 24, 2020 - 6:30 p.m. In order to understand the effervescence that shook the world of architectural creation at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries in Europe, this exceptional program of five conferences bringing together the exhibition curators and international specialists in Art Nouveau will provide an overview of this movement essential to the emergence of 20th-century modernity. The figure of Otto Wagner will be discussed; his achievements, his writings and his teaching allowed him to exercise an international influence and established him as one of the pioneers of modernity. The series of conferences will allow Wagner's work to be compared with the achievements of some of his colleagues in the contemporary avant-garde and will highlight the importance of exchange networks and circuits of influence around 1900 in Europe. With Hervé Doucet, exhibition curator and lecturer in art history, University of Strasbourg.
