Yesterday afternoon Sinterklaas set foot on land again in the municipality of Waterland. He was welcomed in Monnickendam by mayor Wagenaar and many hundreds of children and their parents. Presenter Ruud climbed his ladder ready to gaze out over the water in the hope of catching a glimpse of the steamboat. But before Sinterklaas entered the harbour of Monnickendam with his steamboat, two Inventing Piets had already sailed into the harbour by boat. There they were busy working on a large grey device that eventually turned out to be a gift machine. Many strange sounds came from the device, sometimes even smoke, but the Inventing Piets still did not succeed in conjuring up a gift from the device. In the meantime, one boat after another with Piets arrived in the inner harbour of Monnickendam, and the children who had flocked to the harbour were treated to gingerbread and other delicious sweets. And finally, the steamboat with Sinterklaas arrived. With a total of 90 Black Petes it became a big party. A party where the Invent Petes showed their latest invention to Sinterklaas, and Sinterklaas was allowed to press a button to turn on the machine. And then many balloons came out of the gift machine. The party continued after the festivities in the harbor in the Nicolaas and Antonius church.
