Laschet is critical of the selection of ministers, but emphasizes the need to work with this government in the long term: "No matter who governs from February onwards, they will have to work with this government for the next four years." This is particularly important with a view to European security policy. In the Ukraine war, Laschet is critical of the risk of escalation and questions the strategy of the American government. The CDU politician doubts whether permission to carry out attacks on Russian territory actually contributes to maintaining peace - he specifically mentions a possible attack by Ukraine on the Kerch Bridge. Armin Laschet also stresses that arms deliveries should be tied to clear conditions. He praises the attitude of the Union's candidate for chancellor: "Merz has now said that if you continue to bomb civilian facilities and hospitals, then we will also deliver the Taurus." Laschet criticizes: "Simply saying 'more and more weapons and then the problem will be solved' has not worked so far." With regard to Sahra Wagenknecht's attitude, Laschet is critical. He accuses Wagenknecht of not offering any concrete solutions: "I would like to hear from Ms. Wagenknecht: What does she intend to do to prevent civilian targets in Ukraine from continuing to be bombed?" The Chancellor's phone call with Putin resulted in one of the largest bombing raids on Ukraine. With regard to domestic policy, Laschet stresses the importance of stable and effective government work in order to counteract the growing popularity of the AfD. He warns: "No matter who wins, this next government must work perfectly. [...] If that doesn't happen, in four years we will really have the AfD with very strong values." Regarding the discussion about possible coalitions and the role of the CDU/CSU, Laschet says that Merz brings the profile that the Union needs: "That's why it's good that we now have Friedrich Merz.
