Saviour or destroyer? A year ago, Javier Milei took office as president of Argentina with a chainsaw as a political metaphor. Twelve months later, society is deeply divided in its assessment of his government's performance. Poverty in Argentina has risen to more than 50% since Javier Milei took power. Nevertheless, many voted for Milei because high inflation was an unbearable burden on their daily lives and they wanted a radical break with the Peronist government. There are also businessmen who see Milei's "shock therapy" as a healing power for the national economy. And many citizens have not yet come out of their stupor at the extremely harsh reforms of the ultra-conservative cabinet. In his first year in office, Milei eliminated ministries, reduced public media and cut public spending.
