Site visit with Laure Pecqueur, archaeologist responsible for the Inrap operation, and Florence Mille, head of archaeological collections, Inrap IDF. The social housing construction project on Avenue Grouard in Lagny-sur-Marne provided the opportunity to excavate a large Merovingian necropolis dating from the 5th and 6th centuries. The excavation, which lasted seven months between November 2010 and May 2011, enabled the excavation of 235 graves. This was an opportunity for the archaeologists to study the organization of the funerary space, the methods of burial and the population buried in an area where examples of Merovingian funerary complexes are very rare.
