Apple tree fruit rot – how to save the tree? Fruit rot (moniliosis) is any gardener’s nightmare. Fruit rot is caused by a fungus. The fungal infection quickly spreads throughout the garden, both pome crops (apple, pear, quince) and stone fruits (cherry, sweet cherry, plum, apricot, peach) are at risk. In warm and humid years, crop losses can reach 80%. The infection is carried by the wind, spread by raindrops, and transmitted by insects. First of all, it affects fruits with wounds and cracks, damage and wormholes. Signs of fruit rot. The sources of infection are usually affected fruits that are left hanging on the trees after harvesting, as well as dry branches affected by moniliosis that are not removed during sanitary pruning. With the onset of warm and damp weather, fungal spores begin to actively transfer from plant to plant. Subsequently, the spores affect both green and young, as well as ripe fruits. The first signs of the disease appear when wormy fallen fruit is discovered, from which the spores are transferred to healthy fruits. At first, the rot on the fruits appears as a small brown spot, which increases in size every day and covers the entire fruit. The pulp of the fruit turns brown and softens. After a few days, ash-gray or light yellow spore-bearing pads appear on the affected surface of the fruit, which form solid rings of regular shape. The diameter of the pads is 2-3 mm, and they are all filled with new spores of the fungus. As the crop ripens, the number of affected fruits increases. Apple and pear fruits rot only 3-5 days after infection, and sporulation begins after 8-10 days. If the fruits are not picked, they mummify and cause further spread of the fungus. The color of the fruits changes to gray or blue-black with a glossy tint. How to combat fruit rot. First of all, you need to remove all the rotten fruits on the ground and those left hanging on the trees - they are just breeding grounds for diseases. After the leaves have fallen, collect and burn the leaves, the ground under the tree and the tree itself should be thoroughly treated with copper-containing preparations, a 3% solution of Bordeaux mixture, or you can spray it with a 3% solution of copper sulfate. You should also spray the trunk of the tree, not just the crown. If the disease is severe, then this spraying should be repeated in early spring before the buds open. In the spring after flowering, treat the crown of the tree, but only with a weaker 1% solution of Bordeaux mixture. Instead of this preparation, you can use a 1% suspension of colloidal sulfur. In the future, only autumn or only spring spraying may be sufficient. These sprayings are also a protective measure against other fungal diseases. You can carry out preventive spraying with Fitosporin-M a month before harvesting. Repeat treatment is carried out after 3-5 days. In order to prevent fruit rot, collect and burn fallen leaves, as well as fallen fruit with signs of damage. Remove damaged twigs and shoots in a timely manner. Carry out timely pruning (in the fall after the leaves have fallen, when the crown opens, and in the summer, when damaged fruits and branches are visible), prevent the appearance of pests and signs of other diseases. It is imperative to care for the tree trunks, feed the trees with macro- and microelements. These measures reduce the risk of damage not only by fruit rot, but also by other dangerous diseases. It is especially important to protect trees from the development of scab, which provokes moniliosis. There are no varieties of apple, pear or quince with absolute resistance to fruit rot. All of them are susceptible to fruit rot to varying degrees. #fruitrot #moniliosis #applesrotontree #garden ===================================================== ►SUBSCRIBE TO THE CHANNEL - DOMAVEDUS / domavedus ►VKONTAKTE GROUP https://vk.com/domavedus ========================================================= ►See also: ZUCCHINI ARE ROTTENING THE OVARYS - WHAT TO DO? https://goo.gl/E6UfTY How to Feed Zucchini in Open Ground https://goo.gl/TGxRzz APHIDS ON CUCUMBERS SUPER REMEDY VINEGAR AND SOAP. https://goo.gl/JGV8o4 HOW TO FEED CUCUMBERS - ASH IS A SUPER FERTILIZER! https://goo.gl/t69iqU CUCUMBER LEAVES TURN YELLOW - SUPER REMEDY IODINE AND MILK https://goo.gl/5nQWqU CARROTS IN THE WINTER!
