Before leaving Basilicata there is still one place we want to visit: Aliano ei calanchi, a boundless valley crossed by clay slopes where it seems to be on another planet. We cross it at dawn when the light is better and above all the air is fresher. Then we take the highway and head north, to the Abruzzo National Park, to be precise to Barrea: a village all uphill overlooking the shores of the lake of the same name.
