Anna Vilenskaya is a popularizer of classical music and the head of the Open Music Lecture Hall. Two musical eras today: postmodern and metamodern. We will figure out what postmodern is and how it is currently manifested in music, and what metamodern is, and how it happened that we live between two eras. We will look at academic and electronic music from different angles, find meta-irony in sounds and understand how to express sarcasm with chords - all this in order to understand music today a little better. We will discuss at the lecture: ● How to convey irony in music if there are no words in the music, and how post-irony differs from meta-irony ● We will understand all the “moderns”: modern itself and the postmodern and metamodern that replaced it ● What is Nastasya Khrushcheva’s book “Metamodern in Music and Around It” about ● How the fourth industrial revolution influenced art in general and music in particular ● How reality is reflected in music and what are the needs of the modern listener ● How musical means of conveying emotions have changed with each era and what means are used by modern composers ● How a modern composer copes with the fact that everything was written before him.
