Right at the beginning, he takes us to the heavens themselves: it is early in the morning, on the eve of Christmas Day, and everyone is getting ready for a grand celebration of Jesus' birthday. The Virgin Mary (K. Issová) and St. Veronika (V. Žilková) are baking Christmas cookies, angelic choirs are rehearsing Gloria, and Santa Claus is just as naughty as the other little boys. Only one angel seemed to be there in addition, and as if he was just getting under everyone's feet - Petronel (I. Trojan), a club-faced neshika and pretrhdílo. He spoils everything he touches, but he never admits his mistake. Soon he will turn all the saints against him. The only one who still has patience with Petronel is God Himself (J. Bartoška). He will give him an important task - to stop the busy St. Peter at the heavenly gate. But Petronel begins to judge the newcomers more severely than the Lord himself. And if later he even dares to reprimand the Lord God Himself - the punishment will not be long in coming! He is sent to the earthly world to correct a single sinner, otherwise he will go to Hell on Christmas Day. Terrified, Petronel, transformed into a beggar, leaves among mortals whose lives he has no idea about. His guide is the snotty devil Uriáš (J. Dvořák), who has a great time at Petronel's expense. Together they travel through the snowy region and try to find their sinner, to whom Petronel would fix his head. The path takes them to the nearest castle. The master there is a young count (D. Švehlík), who spends all his time having fun and drinking. His administrator (O. Navrátil) brazenly robs him with the generous help of others. There is also the charming and modest maid Dorotka (Z. Kajnarová)... But - Petronel is a pretty mess - not only does he not correct anyone, but he also throws innocent people into misfortune with his own stupidity. Fortunately, he eventually comes to his senses and understands that nothing is as simple as it seems. And then he has to fix everything he caused...
