But he has never felt comfortable here. He never really furnished his apartment in a development “in which more people live than in my entire home village”. Homesick for Saas Almagell, the 33-year-old is now quitting his management job and moving back to his mother’s house in Valais. War ruins, unplastered brick houses, bumpy roads: the village of Mushtisht in Kosovo is no postcard idyll. But Saimir Shala’s heart is filled with joy here. As a six-year-old boy, he fled the village to Switzerland to escape the war. Today, 20 years later, he is back and says: "Even as a small child, I knew that I wanted to return to Kosovo or Albania." Sina Arnold is embarking on an emotional rollercoaster ride. At the age of ten, she emigrated with her parents from Unterschächen in the canton of Uri to Reno, USA. Today she is 18, and is returning to Switzerland alone. In the USA she leaves her family behind - and her boyfriend Brent. Whether love will last across continents is a complete open question for Sina. Saying goodbye is not easy for Sister Stefanie either. She was on a mission in Africa for more than 50 years.
