At the 16 de 24 Foundation we want to clarify concepts, learn about the different stages and understand a movement that has been key to recognising women's rights and freedoms. To do so, we have invited the philosopher Amelia Valcárcel, one of the leading exponents of feminism in Spain. Amelia Valcárcel (Madrid, 1950) has a PhD in Philosophy and is a Professor of Moral and Political Philosophy at the National University of Distance Education (UNED). She is also Vice-President of the Royal Board of Trustees of the Prado Museum, a member of the Royal Board of Trustees of the National Library, and a member of the Advisory Board of the Carolina Foundation. She has been an elected councillor of the Council of State and a councillor for Education and Culture of the Principality of Asturias. She has published 20 books, the latest of which is “La civilización feminista” (Feminist Civilization) and has received numerous awards, including the Medal of the Principality of Asturias in 2006, the Medal for Equality in 2010, and an Honoris Causa from the University of Veracruz in 2015 and the University of Valencia in 2016.
