KBS-MNB co-production Wild Mongolia - Part 1 Hunters of the Altai A story about snow leopards in the Altai Mountains in northwestern Mongolia and yaks, reindeer, and golden eagles in the taiga forests of northern Mongolia. A road movie about the great migration of nomads. Talking about the lives of wild people and humans from 3,000 years ago to the present - Combination of petroglyphs and nature documentaries - First public release, nocturnal ecology of snow leopards and nomad raids - Altai ecology and hunting seen through the eyes of a golden eagle - A road movie about the great journey of nomads across the taiga forests over the 3,000-meter Bayan Mountains - Co-production with Mongolian National Broadcasting (MNB), the coexistence of magnificent nature and humans - The king of the Altai, the snow leopard, reveals itself! Snow leopards live in the highest places on Earth and are the most difficult animals to film. They live in rugged mountainous terrain at 3,000-5,000 meters above sea level, making them difficult to approach, and they are nocturnal. That's why even locals living in mountainous areas have rarely seen them. KBS and Mongolian state broadcaster MNB production teams went undercover for two months to film snow leopards. They showed them climbing rock walls in search of food and marking their territory on the ground and rocks. They also filmed them attacking the livestock of nomads at night. The nomads the production team met lost 20 of their livestock to snow leopards and eventually moved. Snow leopards are the top predators of the Altai Mountains and are also revered as the “grandfathers in white.” However, when food is scarce in the winter, they attack the livestock of nomads. Are the rocks of Altai the land of snow leopards or the land of humans? - Hunting with golden eagles, an old communication between wild and human beings There are legendary hunters in Bayan-Ulgii in northwestern Mongolia. They are the golden eagles and the Kazakhs. The Kazakhs steal golden eagles’ chicks from their nests and train them to catch foxes, rabbits, etc. Hunting is possible only when the eyes of the golden eagles, the strength of the hunters, and the mobility of the horses are in perfect harmony. People do not make golden eagles fly. When the golden eagle sees its prey, it flies by itself. The golden eagle has eyesight eight times better than humans. Hunting is impossible without trust, rapport, and communication between the wild and humans. The hunting techniques of the golden eagle that caught a fox and a manol, the secrets of its flight, and the hunting journey through the Altai Mountains are captured in dynamic video. The Kazakh people return the golden eagles they raised like their own children to the wild after three to five years. This is an Altai tradition that dreams of eternal freedom. - The Great Migration of Taiga Nomads, Yaks and Reindeer Taiga refers to the coniferous forest zone in southern Siberia. In areas where farming was impossible, people survived through nomadism. The fate of the nomads is determined by 'grass'. The Great Migration of Yak Nomads crossing the 3,000-meter Bayan Mountains toward the spring nomad land is captured. Yaks open up the snowy road, and herds of goats and camels follow. It is a great journey of 1,000 livestock and four families. Livestock that fall behind due to the cold must be left behind. When a camel slips and falls in an icy valley, it takes ten people working together to get it up. A goat that falls into water fights, and a yak gives birth while moving. A single black-and-white photograph guides the 1,000-odd families who have become a community of destiny with people and livestock on their arduous journey. A photograph of a grandfather crossing a snow-covered mountain range 40 years ago, and his son and grandson are retracing the path his grandfather took. The mountains and valleys are the same as in the photograph, but the son, who was an infant, is leading the way on horseback. Before humans set foot on the taiga forest, reindeer paved the way. Reindeer are strong against the cold and have feet that do not slip easily on snow. In harsh environments, humans have sought survival using four-legged animals, and today, they pack for them. Reindeer are the limousines of the taiga, and yaks are the trucks. -Altai Petroglyphs, Telling the Life of Wild and Humans 3,000 Years Ago Petroglyphs are a drama of prehistoric times, and the Altai Mountains are a museum of petroglyphs. The petroglyphs vividly depict the wild and human lives of the Neolithic and Bronze Ages. Foxes, wolves, deer, ibex, camels, horses, and snow leopards and golden eagles are all depicted as they are today. Human lives of hunting on horseback and taming livestock are also depicted in many ways. In the petroglyphs, the snow leopard is aiming at the ibex from a cliff, and the golden eagles are flying in the sky. The hunters are chasing the foxes on horseback, and the reindeer's horn
