"The monks in Mehrerau are a really colorful bunch." The woman from Bregenz who says this knows the Cistercian monastery on Lake Constance well, as do almost all residents of the Vorarlberg state capital. Mehrerau has been an institution in Bregenz since 1097. Scenes from below the water level up into the mountains and from the choir stalls to the operating room shape the image of a monastery that manages the balancing act between worldliness and contemplation in an extraordinarily elegant and almost light-footed manner.
