At the Mühlenhof in Zepelin, Mecklenburg, the cattle are outside on the pasture even in winter. The Pinzgauer breed thrives in cold temperatures and the mother cows even give birth to their calves outside. Nevertheless, someone visits them every day to make sure that all the animals are doing well. When checking the herd, Mühlenhof boss Benedikt Ley believes direct contact with the animals is particularly important. This includes lots of scratching. Lambing season has begun at the goat farm in Wendland. Veronika and Sören Obermeyer are delighted with their youngest offspring. But Martha, one of the 75 mother goats, had her lambs outside on her own. Now the two goat farmers are helping the young family move into the warm stable. They are expecting around 80 lambs to be born in the next few weeks. Because the infectious disease pseudotuberculosis is spreading more and more in general goat farming, a professor from the Veterinary University of Hanover is examining the pregnant goats on the farm. In Hamburg-Ochsenwerder, farm manager Markus Walkusch-Eylandt takes time for his great hobby: baking bread. He likes to bake with his own homemade sourdough. Traditionally, all employees at the Sannmann vegetable farm get a piece of the mixed bread made from wheat and whole grain. The fan base is large! And his bread always turns out well. How does he do it? This time Markus reveals his baking secret. In the Harz foothills, farmer Johannes Bercht wants to build a wall in his cowshed. He gets the necessary building materials from the neighboring village with his old VW Beetle. He is happy to leave the building of the wall itself to others: a family friend and his apprentices. For the latter, the construction site in the stable is a welcome change from everyday farm life. However, the cows are anything but helpful in the project and are very curious about what is happening in their barn that day. ___________________________________________________ Our guidelines for comments: https://www.ndr.de/service/technische... #ndr #ndraufmland #hofgeschichten
