PERIODS OF BRAZILIAN HISTORY The history of Brazil is divided into 5 periods: Pre-Discovery Brazil, Colonial Brazil, the Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves, the Empire of Brazil and the Federative Republic of Brazil. Pre-Discovery Brazil is the period that precedes the arrival of Europeans in Brazilian territory. The starting point of this period is the arrival of the first people in the territory that is now Brazil and this date can vary greatly according to each historian, ranging from 20,000 BC to 60,000 BC. Colonial Brazil is divided into two phases: Pre-Colonial Brazil and Colonial Brazil. Pre-Colonial Brazil is the period between the arrival of the Portuguese in 1500 and the mid-1530s, which was when the Portuguese began, in fact, to adopt colonizing policies in Brazilian territory. Before that, the Portuguese had little interest in the newly discovered territory, because their attention was more focused on developing trade in India. Therefore, Portuguese actions were limited to the exploration of resources, mainly brazilwood, and the construction of trading posts to serve as trading posts. The period of Colonial Brazil began in 1530, when Martim Afonso de Souza was sent to carry out a colonizing expedition in Brazil. From then on, the system of Hereditary Captaincies was implemented and, later, the establishment of the general government. And this was motivated by the decline of trade in India and the threat of invasions from other countries in Brazil. It was a period marked by numerous conflicts against invasion attempts and also against internal revolts. It ended with the arrival of the Crown of Portugal, which elevated the status of Brazil from a State to a Kingdom, becoming part of the Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves. The Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves covers a short period of history, from 1815, when the Crown of Portugal elevated Brazil's status from a State to a Kingdom, until 1822, with the declaration of independence, when Brazil became an empire. Some historians include this phase in the period of Colonial Brazil. The Empire of Brazil began with Brazil's Independence in 1822, but this did not happen so easily. Until 1825, Portugal still considered Brazil an integral part of the Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves and considered Brazilian leaders to be separatist rebels. Only after three years of armed conflict did Portugal recognize Brazil as an independent country. This phase lasts until the Proclamation of the Republic in 1889. It is a period divided into three phases: the First Reign, which lasts from 1822 to 1831, the Regency Period, which lasts from 1831 to 1840, and the Second Reign, which lasts from 1840 to 1889. The Federative Republic of Brazil began with the Proclamation of the Republic in 1889 and is the form of government in force to this day. The system of government is presidential and, until this year, 2022, after 132 years of the Republic, 38 presidents have been elected. Don't forget to like and subscribe to the channel!
