Ali (a.s.) in Nahj al-Balagha - Dr. Abdul Karim Soroush's speech at Tawheed Foundation - June 16, 2017 In this speech, Dr. Abdul Karim Soroush gives a useful but detailed overview of the life of Hazrat Ali (a.s.) and tells the important parts of his life. It also deals with his life after the death of the Prophet and before assuming the caliphate, and analyzes how he reached the caliphate and how people flocked to him to accept the caliphate. Then he gives some points about Nahj al-Balagha and how it was compiled and says that all these statements were written in the last 5 years of Imam Ali's life. Expressing points about the authenticity of the words of Nahj al-Balagha and its appointment to Hazrat Ali (AS) as well as the content of Nahj al-Balagha and its characteristics are among the other things mentioned in this lecture. Emphasis on the political philosophy of Imam Ali (a.s.) as well as reference to some events discussed by Imam Hammam in Nahj al-Balagha and its sermons have also been examined. Finally, Mr. Soroush comes to the point that Nahj al-Balagha and its owner are useful for today's people, especially us Shiites, and how we can use this book as a moral ruling.
