Live from Algeria Part with Abdou Semmar: Sixty generals, ten major generals and no less than eighty-five colonels of the Algerian Army are currently imprisoned in the cells of the Blida military prison. This situation is completely unprecedented in the contemporary history of Algeria. Indeed, this is the first time that 155 senior officers of the Algerian Army have been incarcerated since the beginning of the political crisis of 2019, which shook the country and whose consequences continue to weigh, to this day, on the stability of this great country of the Maghreb and North Africa. According to our sources, the situation of these VIP detainees in the Blida military prison is increasingly deplorable. Many of these generals, having devoted their lives to the service of their country at the cost of heavy personal sacrifices, find themselves in terrifying conditions of detention, in particular due to the lack of adequate medical care, thus putting their health in serious danger. Moreover, the families of these senior military officials, the majority of whom fought fiercely and determinedly against Islamist terrorist militias during the dark decade of the 1990s, are also suffering the consequences of this repression.
