Inaugural lecture by Claire Voisin given on June 2, 2016. Claire Voisin is a professor at the Collège de France and holder of the Algebraic Geometry chair (2015-2020). Algebraic geometry involves very different mathematical fields such as topology, analytic geometry and differential geometry. Claire Voisin addresses in her lecture several notions of complex geometry (holomorphic functions, algebraic varieties, local maps) and topology (singular homology, sheaf theory), as well as her field of specialty: Hodge theory. A key tool for studying the topology of algebraic varieties, this theory is the framework for one of the seven mathematical challenges of the millennium set by the Clay Institute of Mathematics in 2000.
