Let's start with the dimensions of the Alfa 159: length 4.66 meters, width 1.83 meters and height 1.42 meters place it in the D segment of travel sedans. Its design curated by Giorgietto Giugiaro in collaboration with the Alfa Romeo Style Center is still spectacular today: clean but aggressive lines, impossible not to recognize it thanks to the iconic trilobe of the Biscione and the license plate on the left. Aesthetically, this model is in the Ti trim, which is the top of the range after Progressive, Distinctive, Sport and Exclusive Line, so it comes with 19-inch wheels, satin-finish caps, red-painted brake calipers, xenon headlights and a sports trim. The interior of the Alfa Romeo 159 reflects the sporty character of the brand, as the dashboard is very much oriented towards the driver like a cockpit. The gem is the presence of fuel gauges, oil temperature and turbine pressure just above the infotainment display and the dual-zone automatic climate controls. There is the Alfa telescope with speedometer and rev counter, and a central screen for travel information. The 159's steering wheel is in leather with 3 spokes and the desired steering wheel controls that were optional. The Alfa 159 range included various engines: both jts and jtdm, petrol or diesel, including the most sought-after engine, the 1750 tbi with 200 horsepower and the 3.2 V6. On this used 159 we have the 1.9 jtdm with 150hp and 320nm of maximum torque available from 2000 rpm. A turbodiesel engine that is quite responsive at low revs but where it gives its best is when it gets into torque, and thanks to sensitive steering and a gearbox with a short lever and precise engagement it reveals a safe and comfortable ride. In terms of space on board, the Alfa 159 is comfortable for 4 passengers. A boot that is all in all ok for a sedan, 405 litres unfortunately not modular as the rear seats cannot be folded down, for that you have to opt for the 159 Sportswagon, but for a trip with four it can be done. In terms of maintenance, the 159 must be treated well and here is what you can expect in terms of costs: a service with oil, filters and everything else carried out every 15,000 kilometers will set you back around 350-400 euros, a set of good tires remembering the 19” rims amounts to 800-900 euros, tax around 328 euros and a full tank of diesel? Well the tank is a bottomless pit, it holds 70 liters. How much does a 159 sedan cost nowadays? The price in 2024 fluctuates between 5,000 and 15,000 euros based on the condition, engine and trim. Above 100,000 kilometers traveled the price is around 5 and 9,000 euros but it becomes essential to do a good check before concluding a possible agreement. How much does an Alfa 159 1.9 jtdm consume? It depends on the foot and where you use it, remembering that the weight is not on its side. In its favorite habitat, i.e. medium-long distances, you can get up to 20 km per liter on extra-urban routes and 17 on the highway. It suffers more in the city where in traffic you can expect 12-13.
