After the opening of the Lyutezh bridgehead, the task of the 1st Ukrainian Front was to dash west. Vatutin chose the city of Fastov as his first target. At the same time, the fresh German 25th TD with almost a hundred tanks was moving towards the city. However, the battle for Fastov would unfold according to a scenario unexpected for both sides. And believe it or not, the cavalry went furthest. However, this was entirely in line with the paradigm of using the Red Army cavalry in the Great Patriotic War.
