A month without alcohol. What does that do to the body? Ariane Alter lives abstinent for four weeks for PULS Reportage. And her alcohol fasting is in line with the trend: more and more people are opting for Dry January or Sober October, i.e. abstaining from alcohol for a certain period of time and giving themselves and their bodies a break from beer, wine & mulled wine. Young people often drink more than is healthy: 4.2 percent of young women between the ages of 21 and 24 are addicted to alcohol, and for men in this age group the figure is an incredible 10.7 percent. Ari is accompanied by toxicologist Prof. Florian Eyer, who analyses her blood count before and after the experiment. Our reporter also meets 28-year-old Elisabeth, who has been a sober alcoholic for four years. Addiction counselor Sandra Wendl from the Blue Cross explains how quickly you can become addicted to alcohol.
