▬▬▬▬▬▬ Al-Jahiz ▬▬▬▬▬ An Arab writer and one of the imams of literature in the Abbasid era. He has great works that are considered among the main components of Arab culture, and Arab libraries are proud of them to this day. Abu Uthman Amr ibn Bahr ibn Mahbub ibn Fazarah al-Laythi al-Kinani al-Basri, nicknamed al-Jahiz, was born in Basra during the Caliphate of al-Mahdi, in the year 159 AH corresponding to 776 AD - most likely - and there is disagreement about his origins. It was said that he was an Arab from the Kinanah tribe, and it was said that he was originally Negro and that his grandfather was a client of a man from Banu Kinanah. There was a clear bulge in his pupils, so he was nicknamed al-Hadqi, but the nickname by which he became famous was al-Jahiz. He sought knowledge at an early age, so he read the Qur’an and the basics of the language with the sheikhs of his country, but being an orphan and poverty prevented him from devoting himself to seeking knowledge, so he sold fish and bread during the day, and frequented the paper merchants’ shops at night, reading as much as he could. He learned the Arabic language and its literature from Abu Ubaidah, the author of the book “Naqa’id Jarir and Al-Farazdaq”, Al-Asma’i, the author of Al-Asma’iyyat, and Abu Zaid Al-Ansari, and studied grammar at the hands of Al-Akhfash, and the science of theology at the hands of Ibrahim bin Sayyar Al-Basri. He was also connected to non-Arab cultures; Such as Persian, Greek and Indian, by reading translated works or discussing with the translators themselves, such as “Hunayn ibn Ishaq” and “Salmuyeh”. He may have been fluent in Persian, because he recorded some texts in Persian in his book “Al-Mahasin wal-Adad”. He went to Baghdad, where he distinguished himself and became prominent, took up teaching, and took over the office of letters for Caliph Al-Ma’mun. In his books and letters, Al-Jahiz adopted a research method based on doubt and induction. Critics saw him as being very precise and accurate. He was distinguished by a brilliant critical mind, which made him express his ideas with a sarcastic sense, in addition to following the experimental method with regard to the natural sciences. His production was extremely abundant and difficult to count. Among his most famous books are: “Al-Bayan wa al-Tabyin”, “Al-Hayawan”, and “Al-Bukhala”, and many others in the fields of theology, literature, politics, history, ethics, plants, animals, industry, and others. Al-Jahiz died in 255 AH corresponding to 868 AD, while he was sitting in his library when a row of books fell on him, killing him. He died buried under the books he loved, leaving behind immortal books, articles, and ideas. ▬▬▬▬▬▬ Voice.
