Students at Willms High School in Delmenhorst, Germany, had an unusual visitor this week. A human-faced robot called “Captcha”, which works with artificial intelligence, taught the students for a day and engaged them in discussions. The robotic teacher, developed by Hidoba Research, discussed the impact of artificial intelligence on different aspects of society with the students. “There was a bit of a lack of personal contact, but the arguments were all very solid,” said student Kenan Sönmez. His classmate Şeniz Tiryaki said she was particularly excited that the school was the center of attention in the press during the event. Numerous media outlets, including Germany’s most popular evening news program “Tagesschau,” visited the school and interviewed both the students and the robot. The event was made possible thanks to the students’ own initiative. At the “Artificial Intelligence for Good” global summit organized by the United Nations, the students got to know “Captcha” and its developers and suggested that the experiment be carried out in their school.
