He graduated from Diyarbakır High School. He studied at the Philosophy Department of the Faculty of Language, History and Geography at Ankara University. He took his place in Turkish literature with his unique lyricism and imagination in the poems he published in various magazines between 1940 and 1955. He is one of the poets who used the Turkish language best. In his poems, he always took the side of the oppressed and emphasized the brotherhood of the oppressed. The only book where his poems were collected, Hasretinden Prangalar Eskittim, was published in 1968. It is on the list of the most printed books in Turkey. Many of his poems were set to music by artists such as Ahmet Kaya and Cem Karaca. He died of a heart attack on June 2, 1991, in his home in Ankara where he lived alone.
