As the agricultural crisis shakes France, farmers' anger is largely focused on the lack of money. But what is the real story? ✅ To follow and understand the news, subscribe to Le Monde's YouTube channel (and activate the bell for notifications ????!) http://www.youtube.com/subscription_c... According to INSEE figures, 15% of French farmers had no income in 2021. At the same time, however, within certain sectors, the average salary exceeded 3,000 euros per month. These disparities can in fact be explained by the major differences within the sector: size of farms, types of crops, geographical area, etc. Le Monde met farmers from different backgrounds to better understand these major gaps within the profession. Some of them emphasize the difficulties they have in paying themselves. In this context, the agricultural orientation bill will be presented to the Council of Ministers on March 29. Following the strong mobilization of farmers since January, the government has assured that it wants to "consolidate" the text by adding, among other things, simplification measures, particularly concerning the texts on hedges. Emmanuel Macron has also committed to recognizing agriculture "as a major general interest of the French nation" and to enshrining it in law.
