Narrator: Ildikó Bánsági Murder in Mesopotamia is a 1936 novel by Agatha Christie, first published in the United Kingdom on July 6, 1936, by the Collins Crime Club. It was also published in the United States that year by Dodd, Mead and Company. It was first published in Hungarian in 1937 in the series of Pengős novels by the Palladis publisher, under the title Don't Come Back.... In 1928, when Agatha Christie visited the excavations at the city of Ur, she met the renowned archaeologist Leonard Wooley and his wife Katherine. Katherine, who often changed her mood, became the model for Louise Lindner in the novel; in the form of the quiet-natured David Emmot, she portrayed her future husband, Max Mallowan. The story takes place in Tell Jarimzsa, where an archaeological expedition is underway. The renowned archaeologist Eric Leidner, with his colleagues Mr. Carey, Mr. With Emmot, Miss Johnson, Mr. Mercado and Dr. Leidner's wife, the charming Luise Leidner, they explore an old ancient palace. Soon, due to Mrs. Leidner's health, they hire Nurse Amy Leatheran. Mrs. Leidner tells the nurse that she has been receiving threatening letters from her dead first husband. Everyone is skeptical until Lousie Leidner is found dead in her room. Almost all the members of the expedition are suspicious, but everyone is sure that the murderer came from outside. Then the short, short Belgian detective, who "coincidentally" happens to be there, appears, clears away the unnecessary elements and realizes that the murderer is among the members of the expedition.
