With the exception of the corona year 2020, this trend has even been increasing in recent years. Zoos have long been making great efforts to improve animal husbandry, one that is as natural as possible, but in doing so, the makers and employees also come up against ethical gray areas, e.g.: What needs and rights do crowd-pullers like polar bears or great apes have, and can they ever be met in captivity? What contribution do zoos' breeding programs really make to species conservation? And how should one deal with young animals for which there will be no room later?
