Aerial photos of the Japanese National Railways Uno Line (Okayama-Uno) and the Uno-Takamatsu Sea Route (Uno-Takamatsu) from around 1975. The Uno Line is now connected to Shikoku via the Honshi-Bisan Line, but at that time the Uno Line was a route from Uno to Takamatsu, where you could transfer to the Uno-Takamatsu Ferry. Many people probably used a Shikoku Wide Tour Ticket to transfer to the Uno-Takamatsu Ferry, eat Sanuki udon on board, and transfer to trains all over Shikoku. The Uno Line was a single track all the way, but since it was a major route connecting Honshi and Shikoku, it was the main route for long-distance trains and freight trains. Until the opening of the Blue Train Limited Express Seto, the only remaining sleeper limited express train to this day, and the Tokaido Shinkansen, the 151 series electric train limited express "Fuji" ran between Tokyo and Uno. This video also introduces the Uno Line, but the latter half also introduces the Uno-Takamatsu Sea Route. Since there are no aerial photographs of the sea, this is a digest version (for illustration purposes only) of aerial photographs of the area around the remote islands, but I hope it gives you an idea of what it was like at the time. The wiring diagrams for each station are from the mid-1970s.
