Adoption. Before it happens, couples have often tried almost everything to have a biological child. Artificial insemination, aborted pregnancies, miscarriages. For many, adoption is the last chance to have a child at all. When an adoption is successful, the joy is great at first. But it is a turning point, it turns the parents' lives upside down. And adopted children bring with them backstories that surprise their new parents, challenge them and repeatedly push them to their limits. For his three-part mini-series "Adopted", Jean Boué, himself an adoptive father, met five couples who talked about their experiences. The experiences of the parents are comparable, they are similar and condensed, sometimes it almost seems as if they are talking about one and the same child. But the couples could hardly be more different, they are old and young, from East and West, their adoption has just begun or it was ages ago. In three episodes, they all talk about their experiences. The first part, "Difficult Birth", is about the failed attempts to have a biological child and the decision to adopt one. The second part, "Encounter of Life", deals with the shared path into a new life. The last episode, "What's inside, is inside", is about the surprises and imponderables that all couples have and have had to deal with in their everyday lives with adopted children.
