In the morning, Chief Inspector Dünnwald finds the body of a cleaning lady in his office - stabbed to death with his own letter opener! Dünnwald fears the worst - for himself, his career, for the entire police department. Adelheid is his only hope. Dünnwald orders complete secrecy: no one is allowed to enter his room, no one except Adelheid is informed. And Dünnwald disappears, is unavailable to speak to anyone and ends up in the archives with Wichtrud Schaller, where he waits, shivering with worry, for Adelheid's phone call and the solution to the case. Adelheid has to painstakingly follow the threads - from the cleaning company the cleaning lady belonged to to the dead woman's partner. In the murdered woman's apartment, Adelheid discovers that she had a large sum of money in her wardrobe. Where did she get the money from?....
