A pastor buying a stolen car in Eldar Ryazanov's tragicomedy - this is how the domestic audience first saw Lithuanian actor Donatas Banionis on screen. A few years later, he would go beyond episodic roles and first play intelligence officer Konstantin Ladeynikov in the detective Dead Season, and then psychologist Chris Kelvin in Tarkovsky's drama Solaris. Passers-by on the street rarely recognized Donatas Banionis as a famous actor.
