Kamerkoor JIP Jonathan Ploeg (conductor) / Felipe Pipi (video) The JIP Chamber Choir is a project choir originating from Utrecht, Netherlands, founded in 2013 by brothers Jonathan and Imre Ploeg. The choir's mission is to present new and little-known choral music from different parts of the world, exploring surprising, engaging and essential themes. In this project, JIP collaborated with the group The Windsor Consort, dedicating themselves to exploring the culture, language and music of Portugal. This partnership reflects the search for a deep connection with the country's repertoire and artistic wealth. www.kamerkoorJIP.nl The theme Acordai by Fernando Lopes-Graça is a work of great musical and social relevance, especially in the Portuguese context. Composed in 1946, Acordai is a symphonic chorale with lyrics by José Gomes Ferreira and is considered a landmark piece in resistance music, symbolizing the fight against oppression and the defense of human rights during the Estado Novo period in Portugal. __ Wake up __ Lyrics: José Gomes Ferreira (1900-1985) Composer: Fernando Lopes-Graça (1906-1994) Wake up, wake up men who sleep cradling the pain of vile silences, come in the cry of virile souls to pluck the flower that sleeps at the root Wake up wake up rays and typhoons that sleep in the air and in the crowds, come and set fire to the stones of the sea, the world and hearts, with stars and songs. Wake up, light up with souls and suns this sea without docks or lighthouses and wake up after the final fights, our heroes who they sleep in the pits Wake up! “Music made in Portugal” I created this channel just to promote national music, the Portuguese language and Portuguese-speaking culture.
