With the same trepidation of a child waiting for Christmas, I was waiting to explore the #Abruzzo National Park for the first time in my life. The hike I chose to do from Civitella Alfedena took me into the Val di Rose to an area known as the #Camosciara, famous for chamois sightings. Although it was mainly deer that kept me company along the #trekking that for half passed through the shadows of centuries-old beech trees. Along the way I was struck by the poetry of the environmentalist Claudio Miccoli, who died at just 20 years old, carved on the walls of a refuge that was at the top of my path. The last verses read like this: 'We create unity with what is around us / and we live. Don't get lost in nonsense / do the same'. I only discovered later that Miccoli was killed on the street in Naples by neo-fascists after he had tried to calm the spirits after a clash. An end that reminded me of the young Willy Monteiro. After having breathed the air of these valleys, I think that respect for nature also passes through respect for all lives. #unreporterinvaligia #viaggi
