Oana Pellea shares an actor's perspective on the power of emotion, about what it takes to be empathetic and about the beauty that lies in diversity. Emotion is the fastest communication medium; it is education and tradition agnostic. Oana Pellea, daughter of Domnica and Amza Pellea, the well-known actor, was born on January 29, 1962 in Bucharest. In 1984 she graduated from the Academy of Theatre and Film, in the class of professor Sanda Manu. In 1984-1987 she was an actress at the Piatra Neamt Theatre. Between 1987 and 1999, when she became a freelancer, she played at the Bulandra Theatre in Bucharest. For her theatrical activity, including over 30 main roles, she has won numerous awards, including: in 2009, the Grand Prize of the Romanian Comedy Festival for the best show, The Pocket with Bread by Matei Visniec, a show she directed and performed alongside Sandu Mihai Gruia; in 2000, the Award for Outstanding International Career, awarded by the Romanian Cultural Foundation; in the same year, the Romanian Theatre Union Award for the best actress (the role of Catarina in The Taming of the Shrew after Shakespeare, produced by Mihai Maniutiu) This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
