He did not try to be faster than history, he perfectly felt the spirit of the times, he completed the Serbian revolution. In the Serbian collective memory, Miloš Obrenović is remembered more as a skilled and cunning negotiator than as a brave warrior, although in fact his exclamation: Here I am, here you are, the war against the Turks, can be marked as the beginning of the creation of a modern Serbian state. Is Miloš the Great and because of him our country has a half-century longer history and a 50 percent larger territory? Are we still more numerous than other South Slavic peoples because of the freedom that the wise prince won for us? What is his legacy, and what did the dynasty he founded leave us? Would the Obrenovićs create Yugoslavia? What would Serbia be like if there was no Miloš, and can Miloš's politics be pursued today?
