President of the Dutch Central Bank Klaas Knot emphasises the importance of energy compensation being 'used as targeted as possible, only for people who need it and that it is temporary and financed'. According to Knot, we all understand in the Netherlands 'that money doesn't grow on trees'. That is why he warns the government about a mistake it made in the past: 'We must be careful not to derive too much comfort from the fact that our national debt quota is only 50 percent, while we are therefore allowing a potentially open-ended scheme such as this energy subsidy to enter government finances.' Because there is a threat of drastic cutbacks if we do not: 'Then we will once again end up in a situation where Dutch government finances will eventually go off the rails and then it may take three more Lubbers cabinets to address that.' ➡ Subscribe to not miss anything and join the conversation: http://bit.ly/buitenhof-abonneren ➡ Watch another video about economics: https://bit.ly/buitenhofyt-economie This video is from the broadcast of Buitenhof on October 30, 2022 https://bit.ly/buitenhof-30-okt-22 About Buitenhof: Buitenhof discusses politics and current affairs in in-depth interviews, debates or discussions.
