[D] - Horror accident on the A5: semi-trailer crushes car - 1 person dead, 4 others injured Major operation by the Waghäusel fire department & Bruchsal fire department + 3 rescue helicopters in action on 06.04.2016 + Interview On Wednesday afternoon, at around 3 p.m., a serious traffic accident occurred on the BAB5 near St. Leon-Rot, just before the Walldorf junction, between two trucks and a car, in which one person died. Four other people were injured. According to current information, a 58-year-old truck driver was driving his semi-trailer on the BAB5 towards Frankfurt. Just before the Walldorf junction, he apparently failed to see the end of a traffic jam, drove into a small car in front of him and pushed it under a truck driving in front of it. There were 3 people in the small car at the time of the accident. The 22-year-old driver from the Karlsruhe district and her passenger, whose identity has not yet been established, were seriously injured and flown to hospitals by two rescue helicopters. A man from Sinsheim was in the back seat of the vehicle, but he was so badly injured that he died at the scene of the accident. Both truck drivers were taken to nearby hospitals with minor injuries. The semi-trailer and the small car have been confiscated. Initial estimates put the property damage at several tens of thousands of euros. An expert was called in to clarify the course of the accident. All three vehicles were towed away. Traffic was backed up for over 17 kilometers.
