Chinampas are a pre-Hispanic farming method used by the Mexicas to expand their territory in lakes and lagoons in the Valley of Mexico, in areas where water is the main natural resource. To this day, they form an artificial farming system unique in the world, declared a World Heritage Site. Their effectiveness guarantees food security and protects the biodiversity of the region.
