Putting a new sea rescue boat into service is a very special event for a volunteer crew from the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS). The sea rescuers from the Horumersiel station have transferred their new ship WOLFGANG PAUL LORENZ from its construction yard in Rostock to its final berth in the port of Wangersiel. On its way from the Baltic Sea to the North Sea, the as yet unchristened special ship passed, among other things, the "coat hanger" of the Fehmarnsund Bridge and the Kiel Canal. TV journalist Ursula Hensel accompanied the sea rescuers with her camera on the sometimes quite stormy transfer trip on board SRB 75 - as it was called internally until the christening. The sea rescuers are responsible for the maritime search and rescue service on the North and Baltic Seas. They finance all of their work exclusively through donations and voluntary contributions.
