The Indian Gukesh wins the third game of the Chess World Championship against Ding Liren. The world champion from China, playing with black in a Queen's Gambit, got into an unknown variation after the seventh move of his Indian challenger. Gukesh then put him under constant pressure. Ding used up a lot of thinking time, and a faulty rook maneuver on the 17th move made his defense more difficult. Gukesh stayed calm, used his extra thinking time and found strong moves. On the 37th move, Ding exceeded his thinking time in a lost position. Chess grandmaster Niclas Huschenbeth analyzed the first game for ZEIT ONLINE. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ You can find ZEIT ONLINE's explainer videos on political, scientific and social topics here: • Explainer from ZEIT ONLINE You can see background information, impressions and personal stories in the documentaries and reports from ZEIT ONLINE: • Documentaries & reports from ZEIT ONLINE #schachwm #chess # #zeitonline
