When I had the plan for the conversion, as a layman when it comes to wood I started looking for what I should use for the conversion. Some people say chipboard, others OSB boards, then screen-printed boards, multiplex boards, walnut, poplar, etc. But most people said don't use spruce!!! That's exactly what I used and I've had good experiences with it. In the end I can only say good things about spruce. Spruce is light, which is an advantage for camper conversions, and it's also inexpensive if you want to build a low-budget camper. The disadvantage is that spruce is a soft wood, so I'm not sure if this is the right wood for people who live in campers for long periods of time. I don't think so. But for the time that my camper van has been in use, spruce has proven itself as a type of wood for conversions. I think the weight and price are unbeatable. I can absolutely not confirm and cannot understand the bad reviews of spruce for self-conversion of campers.
