We are the country where forests are decimated by illegal logging and where politicians pretend to replant them, just to please the electorate. After we showed the scale of wood theft from Romania's forests ( • RECORDER INVESTIGATION On the trail of the thief... ), today we show you how the planting campaigns that should restore them are falsified. At the beginning of 2020, Costel Alexe, then Minister of the Environment, launched the "A forest as much as a country" campaign, under the high patronage of President Klaus Iohannis. It was declared "the biggest afforestation campaign in the last ten years" and advertising spots and planting actions were prepared in which the country's most important politicians allowed themselves to be filmed and photographed with a spade in hand. We searched the state records for the real numbers and went to the field in several counties to see how the situation is presented beyond the campaign actions.
