The capital's director Maxim Ozerov and the aspiring screenwriter Fedya Velichkovsky come to the provincial town of Dremov to record a radio play with the participation of the local theater troupe. The business trip promises to be desperately boring. However, during the performance, something incredible happens backstage: the main director is killed, and an attempt is made on the life of the leading actress. Having begun the investigation, Ozerov and Velichkovsky discover that the ghost of an actor who played on the stage of the Dremov Theater before the revolution is involved in the case.
